The Killer Whales of Prince Edward Islands
Around the sub-Antarctic Prince Edward Islands, killer whales produce seasonal vocalisation patterns tied to prey availability and social behaviours. The project, in collaboration with the University of Pretoria, leverages automation to analyse a 4,200-hour acoustic dataset, reducing human effort and uncovering ecological insights critical for understanding killer whales and their role in the Southern Ocean ecosystem.
