The Burrunan Dolphin of Port Phillip Bay

In Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, Australia, the critically endangered Burrunan dolphin faces threats from anthropogenic noise, vessel strikes, and environmental change. With fewer than 300 individuals remaining, traditional observation methods have limited understanding of their behaviours. By employing passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) and machine learning tools developed in collaboration with Deep Voice, this project aims to assess dolphin movement patterns, acoustic behaviours, and regions of biological significance to inform conservation management better and protect this iconic species.
